Games, Games, Games

I take back my words about games in my previous post. Games are not just for kids, but for adults too. Not mind games though - mind games are, in my point of view, still for kids!

Anyway, my gaming days started with DOS based games - Captain Commander or something. The games was simple - spaceship shooting aliens, purely black and white. Of course, back then there was only one PC to be shared between my brother and I so we loggerheaded on whose turn every other day and naturally, being the eldest, I bullied him most of the time. :P

There were a few other light games that I played during my primary school days, but one game was particularly my favourite. Here's a hint:

Yup, you guessed it. Commander Keen! Who could ever forget that game! It's so simple, adventurous and probably my first coloured game on PC. Keen was so cute, represeting every kid’s imagination – shooting aliens, grabbing candies and with his infamous pogo stick!! Who could ever forget the pogos that made Keen jump so high up - useful to grab hidden candies and uncover secret levels. :). Now I'm curious - whether pogo sticks were made famous by Keen or the other way. Hmm..

Anyway, I was so obsessed with Keen I day dreamed about being Keen myself, being kidnapped by aliens and explore their world every night!

Later, console games took the market by storm, and my loyalty to PC games was greatly tested, particularly because of this game:

Yup, it's the Super Mario Brothers! Just like Keen, Super Mario allowed us, kids, to discover hidden secrets and adventures through these little men. My favourite part was when Mario could size up to be Super Mario - Mario could jump higher and further than the usual. Talk about size does matter ey?

Unfortunately, my passion for consoles were shortlived. Although console games were better than PC games in some aspects – i.e. more interactive etc, but the console controls were giving me a hard time. For me, games should be simple, especially, in terms of controls, lest, it’ll spoil the fun.

So in no time I was back to PCs thanks to this game:

Prince of Persia! (and they do have the latest version by the way).

Getting the prince to save the princess, unscathed by many obstacles along the way was pure simple fun for me. My favourite part was exploring the dungeons, trying to locate the princess hidden somewhere deep within. It took me days till I gave up trying. My brother came to the rescue and finished the game for me (like Keen too) just so I won't miss the ending. When games get too complicated, a simpleton like me could barely survive till the end. :P

Later came the so-called real RPG games. Who can ever forget Diablo?

The story lines were superb, it feeds my addiction for fantasies and was probably the most complicated game at that time I could play. The Sorceress was my favourite and most perfect character – a sexy sultress with dangerous moves :). Of all powers, the fire was my utmost favourite followed by lightning. As usual, my brother and I would spent hours leveling up before the final battle with Diablo. As usual, being the penakut me, my brother had to finish the final battle just so I could win. So you see, I never made to the final level (as seen in up there) though I'd wished I had. :P (By the way, Diablo is scary OK? Each Diablo's breath could drain your entire life until you mati kiau. Me no likey to die.).

By the time uni came, my housemate and I fell in love with this game:

We’d spend the winter holidays battling hour way through monsters, undead and everything else that stood our way from victory. Again, it was fun, but as the epic came towards the end, I couldn’t keep up anymore building towers and recruiting soldiers. Like all games, it got too tough for simple minded gamer like me. Thanks to cheats, I managed through anyway, :D, just so I didn’t miss the ending as usual (this time without my brother's help, hehe).

The usual comment I got whenever I mentioned I play WC3 was whoaa, it's pretty rare to find a girl who plays that game. In my world, it's not rare at all. My housemate is another living example. By the way, did we tell you that we also played WC3's sequel, Dota? :P

These days I hardly spend my hours on the PC gaming. Bought The Settlers - Rise of an Empire a few months back, got bored before I could finish the last few episodes. So my final passion is only this:

Like all Diablo fans, I’ve been waiting, waiting and.. waiting in full anticipation for this one. Just merely looking at the teasers, I'm already having orgasmic chills! Again, I think I'd go for the magician encore. :)

Cepatla kluar game ni wei. Lambat kang aku dah kawin, melopeh... adeh.

My final word to y'all gamers:

Long live gamers! Once a gamer, always a gamer. :)
ps: While waiting for D3, I think I'll keep myself busy with the Argonauts. Hmm...
